San Antonio is among the first global cities to be certified to the new ISO 45001 standard.
(San Antonio) – ABS Quality Evaluations, Inc. (ABS QE), a subsidiary of ABS Group providing management systems certification services, has certified the City of San Antonio's Office of Risk Management – Safety Division's management system to the new ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Standard. The San Antonio Office of Risk Management includes Solid Waste Management, Parks and Recreation, Transportation, Capital Improvement (Building and Equipment) and Development Services.
Released in March 2018, the ISO 45001 standard replaces the OHSAS 18001 standard, which previously established the minimum requirements for workplace safety. ISO 45001 addresses the need for a strategic and sustainable approach to occupational health and safety systems.
"For the City of San Antonio and our Solid Waste Management Department, this recognition truly reflects a great achievement in demonstrating our core values of integrity, professionalism, teamwork and innovation," says Jose M. Inclan, Occupational Health and Safety Manager at the City of San Antonio. "Our employees now have a tool that is effectively helping them conduct their jobs much more safely and efficiently, and that shows in the quality of service we provide to our citizens."
"We congratulate the City of San Antonio for raising the bar in prioritizing the need to reduce workplace risks and creating better, safer working conditions," says Dominic Townsend, President of ABS Quality Evaluations. "As a world-leading certification body, ABS QE continues to strengthen its certification services to support organizations in improving their occupational health and safety systems."
